ABOUT
RealLivePeople is a contemporary dance theater company actively negotiating moving bodies and the messy, complex lives we live inside them. Projects begin with challenging, yet relevant questions: Does your job represent your identity? Is it ever alright to tell a lie? What does it mean if you are motivated by the approval of others? Every dance is grounded in the generative friction between what collaborators believe they know at the onset of the process and what can only be discovered through rehearsal and performance. This dissonance creates work that is simultaneously structured and responsive.
Our dances subjectify performers, granting them freedom to revel in their awkward humanity and reveal the undersides of their delicious skill. Together we generate permeable spaces where audience members are invited into the work, in the form of direct participation or through transparent explanation and execution, and encouraged to engage with the people dancing using all of the tools that they already possess for making sense of movement. |
